Tottenham Hotspur have spent the last two seasons lurching from crisis to crisis. A Europa League triumph in 2025 briefly masked deeper structural issues, but the reality is impossible to ignore now: Spurs have become a club drifting without a clear football identity. After finishing 17th in 2024-25 and spending large parts of 2025-26 fighting relegation again, this summer is arguably the most important in the club’s modern history.
The problems go beyond one manager or one bad transfer window. Tottenham have suffered from poor squad planning, constant managerial upheaval, recurring injury crises and a lack of experienced leadership on the pitch. Roberto De Zerbi may have steadied the ship late in the season, but survival alone cannot be considered success. Spurs need a complete reset to maintain their status as one of the only clubs to have never been relegated from the Premier League.
Build a Squad With Balance, Not Just Potential
One of the biggest criticisms aimed at Tottenham in recent years has been their obsession with buying “projects” rather than complete players. The club invested heavily in youth and resale value, but when pressure mounted, the squad lacked experience, personality and composure.
That approach simply cannot continue.
Spurs need proven Premier League-ready players this summer. Young talent is important, but a dressing room cannot function without experienced professionals who understand difficult moments. Too often this season, Tottenham looked mentally fragile after conceding goals or losing momentum in games.
The departures of senior figures over the past year stripped leadership out of the squad. Replacing that personality is just as important as replacing goals or assists.
A commanding centre-back, a disciplined defensive midfielder and a reliable goalkeeper should all be priorities. Tottenham have repeatedly looked too easy to play through, particularly away from home. The spine of the team has lacked authority for years.
Solve the Injury Crisis Once and for All
