Aston Villa ready to replace club legend with Serie A star

Aston Villa’s summer planning appears to have reached a significant stage, with Sports Boom reporting that Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has emerged as a priority alternative target if Emiliano Martínez leaves the club.

The situation around Martínez has been building for some time. Villa are not pushing blindly into the market, but the club know that losing a goalkeeper of his status would demand a clear, decisive response. As Sports Boom put it, “The Martinez situation is directly shaping Suzuki’s future.”

Suzuki, 23, joined Parma in July 2024 and is under contract until June 2029, which gives the Italian club considerable control. His current Transfermarkt valuation stands at €20 million, though any serious move from Villa would likely need to go above that figure.

Suzuki Profile Fits Modern Villa

Suzuki has already earned 24 caps for Japan and made 20 Serie A appearances this season. For a goalkeeper still in the early stages of his career, that is meaningful experience across club and international football.

Sports Boom describe him as having “reflexes, positioning quality, and ability to play with the ball at his feet,” which explains why Villa would view him as a suitable modern replacement. Unai Emery’s side require a goalkeeper comfortable under pressure, capable of distributing cleanly, and strong enough to handle the emotional weight of replacing Martínez.

There is also a wider commercial angle. Suzuki “makes headlines in Japan after every match and carries serious commercial value in the Far East market.” That should never be the main reason for a signing, but for a Premier League club with European ambitions, it is a useful additional factor.

Rival Interest Raises Pressure

Villa are not operating alone. Sports Boom report that Bayern München, Inter, Napoli and Manchester United are also monitoring Suzuki.

That matters. Parma have no immediate need to sell and will be aware that multiple clubs can drive the fee…
