Tottenham agree terms to sign Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, as per TEAMtalk.

The Lilywhites currently have Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert as specialist options to deploy on the left flank. Moreover, Mohammed Kudus can provide cover in this position if needed.

However, Odobert has been sidelined for an extended time due to a serious knee issue, while Kudus has been out injured for more than six months.

Tel, meanwhile, has displayed promising performances during the pre-season matches, but he is still very young and his game time needs to be managed carefully to help him reach his full potential.

So, he is ready to leave this summer to play regularly and has been attracted by the prospect of playing under Roberto De Zerbi. The player’s representatives have already agreed on personal terms with Spurs, and they have already made Liverpool aware that Gakpo is ready to leave.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, the Merseyside club are in a strong position to demand a big fee to sell him and want more than £60m. Tottenham are even prepared to seal the deal by matching the Reds’ asking price.

Tottenham finished 17th in the last two Premier League campaigns; as a result, they have decided to splash a huge amount of money this summer to bolster the squad and hand De Zerbi the necessary tools to achieve success next season.

They have signed Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke to upgrade the defensive department, while they have reinforced the engine room by purchasing Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

Now, they have seemingly shifted focus to the attacking department. Gakpo is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career.
