Terence Crawford called out once again for ‘the biggest fight in boxing’: “We need it”

Terence Crawford has been urged to make a U-turn on his retirement, told there is “no bigger fight” in boxing.

The 39-year-old called time on his illustrious career in December, having become a three-division undisputed king by dethroning Canelo Alvarez a few months earlier.

In doing so, Crawford also became a five-weight world champion and joined the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward and Joe Calzaghe by retiring with an unbeaten record.

But despite seeming satisfied with his decision to leave the sport, the American has been repeatedly linked to fights with Jaron Ennis and Ryan Garcia.

At this point, neither opponent appears to have captured his interest, and it remains unlikely that ‘Bud’ would even entertain a comeback.

If he does decide to return, however, then Canelo would seek retribution for the unanimous decision defeat he was handed in their first super-middleweight encounter.

Speaking with Ring Magazine, the Mexican suggested their fight was much closer than it seemed and, in a potential rematch, he would know exactly how to solve the Crawford puzzle.

“I know what happened, and I know my mistakes. Plus Crawford is a great fighter.

“I hope [the rematch happens]. If not, I wish him the best. But I hope [the rematch happens]. We need it. There’s no bigger fight than that.”

Before anything else, Canelo must first dethrone WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli, who he is expected to face in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 31.

That is, of course, if their fight does not get cancelled as a result of the continuing conflict in the Middle East.
