Everton’s interest in Marcus Rashford has the feel of a transfer story that begins as a curiosity and quickly hardens into something more serious. According to Football Transfers, discussions have taken place over a possible January move, a development that says as much about Everton’s attacking needs as it does about Rashford’s uncertain standing at Manchester United.
There is, on the surface, an obvious attraction. Everton need goals, need variety, need a forward line with greater elasticity than it currently possesses. Rashford, even in a diminished phase, still carries the outline of a high-level attacker, a player who can stretch a defence, arrive in transition and create danger from angles few others in the Premier League can reproduce. Clubs do not forget that profile easily.
Yet transfer decisions are rarely made on memory alone. Rashford returned to Old Trafford in the summer with a degree of hope attached to him after an impressive spell at Barcelona, where he managed 14 goals and 15 assists. That represented not only productivity, but evidence that in the correct structure he could still function as a decisive modern forward. Back at United, under Michael Carrick, that momentum has stalled. Six starts without a goal contribution is a sparse return, and enough to reinforce the suspicion that talent alone cannot steady a career that has become oddly episodic.
Everton Transfer Logic Behind the Interest
This is where Everton’s thinking becomes intriguing. Their pursuit of attacking reinforcement is easy to understand after a summer in which they failed to land Folarin Balogun and were left with Thierno Barry as their only recognised striker. For a side trying to give itself a stable platform in the top half, that looks precarious. The issue is not simply a lack of finishing, but a lack of options, of different routes to goal, of players who can tilt a match with one run or one shot.

Rashford offers at least the possibility of that…
