Newcastle United’s transfer history has changed beyond recognition since the club’s takeover. For years, the Magpies’ record-signing list was defined by careful spending, occasional big swings and the odd statement deal. Now, it reflects a club that has operated in a very different financial world.

1. Nick Woltemade, Stuttgart: around £69m
Nick Woltemade is Newcastle United’s record signing after joining from Stuttgart in a deal reported to be worth around £69m, including add-ons.
The German forward arrived as a major attacking investment and a statement of intent. Newcastle needed fresh firepower after Alexander Isak’s departure, and Woltemade gave them a different type of centre-forward: tall, technical, intelligent and capable of linking play as well as finishing chances.
At that price, he carries huge responsibility. Newcastle did not sign him as a development luxury. They signed him to become one of the central figures in the next version of their attack.
2. Alexander Isak, Real Sociedad: around £63m
Alexander Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for around £63m, becoming the club’s record signing at the time.
It was one of the first truly elite-level statements of the new Newcastle era. Isak arrived with a reputation as one of Europe’s most elegant young forwards, combining pace, movement, height and technical quality.
