Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton this summer, according to Fichajes.
Wharton began attracting serious attention after progressing through Blackburn Rovers’ youth ranks. The midfielder went on to make 51 senior appearances for the Championship outfit before his performances convinced Crystal Palace to bring him to Selhurst Park in January 2024.
Since making that switch, the 22-year-old has steadily established himself among the Premier League’s most impressive midfielders, while also playing an important part in Palace’s progress under former boss Oliver Glasner.
His ability to thrive under the highest pressure has been equally impressive. Wharton started the FA Cup Final, FA Community Shield and, most notably, the UEFA Conference League Final, helping the Eagles complete a clean sweep of all three available trophies.
That level of consistency across the past two and a half years is unlikely to go unnoticed, particularly with some of Europe’s biggest clubs expected to make a swoop for him.
Now, according to Fichajes, Real Madrid have explored a move for Wharton following Rodri’s preference to join their fierce rivals Barcelona.
However, the report adds that inactivity over the transfer has dragged other clubs into the race for the England international midfielder.
One of the clubs looking to sign Wharton is Liverpool, according to Fichajes, which claims the Merseyside giants have emerged as among the most interested in signing the 22-year-old this summer.
Fierce battle
The Reds will need to step up efforts to sign Wharton, as the Spanish outlet claims that Chelsea and Manchester United have both shown interest in the exciting midfielder, Fichajes adds.
In an interview on talkSPORT, Liverpool fan and current Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has urged the club to sign Wharton to bolster their midfield ranks.
