Manchester United have reportedly made contact to sign Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys, as per TEAMtalk.
The left-back position has been a long-standing problematic area for the Red Devils, as Luke Shaw has struggled with fitness problems since joining from Southampton.
United purchased Patrick Dorgu from Lecce as a potential long-term replacement for Shaw, but he mainly featured as a forward under Michael Carrick. Moreover, he has had a few hamstring issues in recent times.
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can provide cover in this position if needed, but they are more comfortable in the right-back position. On the other hand, with Shaw’s existing deal set to run until next summer, United have seemingly started exploring options to replace the Englishman.
TEAMtalk claim that Man Utd have identified Seys as a serious option and have been monitoring his development closely. They have even made contact to learn about the details of signing him.
With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2029, Club Brugge are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money if they are forced to cash-in and want around £30m.
Apart from the 21-year-old, Man Utd have earmarked Lewis Hall, Tyrick Mitchell and Adrien Truffert as serious options to strengthen the left-back position.
Seys to Man Utd
The report state that Arsenal and Aston Villa were linked with a move for him this summer, while Newcastle United are in this race as well. On the other hand, AC Milan, Roma, Bologna, Benfica, Porto and Crystal Palace have expressed their interest in him.
Seys is an attack-minded left-back. He has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Belgian Pro League in recent times; as a result, he has secured his place in the Belgian squad.
He is quick, technically sound, can play out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions. The youngster is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for the Old Trafford club should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the 20-time English champions eventually manage to secure his services in January or next…..
