Frankfurt’s Rapid Winger Looks Ready for England’s Biggest Stage
Jean-Mattéo Bahoya may not yet be a household name among English Premier League fans, but the Eintracht Frankfurt attacker has the qualities Premier League recruitment teams increasingly value: exceptional speed, positional flexibility, top-level European experience, and significant room to develop.
The French youth international is only 21 years old, yet he has already played in Ligue 1, Ligue 2, the Bundesliga, the Europa League, and the Champions League. After progressing through Angers’ academy, he joined Frankfurt in January 2024 and has gradually earned a larger role in one of Europe’s strongest domestic competitions.
Having recently declined a move to Hull, and with a long-term Frankfurt contract and a rising market value, Bahoya would not necessarily be an inexpensive signing. However, his athletic profile and attacking potential could make him an excellent addition for a Premier League club prepared to invest in development.
His Speed Would Translate Immediately
Bahoya’s most obvious strength is his pace. During the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, he recorded a sprint of 37.16 kilometers per hour, the fastest speed registered by any player ever in that in the competition.
That level of acceleration would give him an immediate weapon in England. Premier League teams frequently have to attack into limited space, but matches can open quickly after turnovers. A winger who can explode into the space behind an advanced fullback changes how opponents defend. The left-sided forward completed 2.78 take-ons per 90 last season, better than 94% of the wingers in Europe’s top five leagues.
Bahoya could be particularly effective for a club that presses aggressively and transitions forward at speed. Winning possession would give him opportunities to isolate defenders, carry the ball over distance, and create space for teammates arriving through the center.
Pace alone does not guarantee success, but Bahoya appears capable of using it in practical situations rather than simply producing impressive physical data.
He Offers More Than a Traditional Touchline Winger
