Arsenal’s interest in Bruno Guimaraes is real, long-standing and, for now, running into a wall. According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United have made their stance crystal clear to the player and to those around him. In simple terms, they do not want to sell.
That matters, because Arsenal clearly see Guimaraes as a major solution in midfield. Mikel Arteta’s admiration is no secret, and this is not a fresh whim created by one transfer window. Romano laid it out plainly: “Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the player,” and, more significantly, “Mikel Arteta was driving this interest for Bruno Guimares internally.” That tells you plenty. Reports around the deal suggest Arsenal are prepared to go big. A fee of £80 million has been mentioned, and Romano added that “Arsenal had a bid rejected, £55million.” Whether that initial figure was exploratory or serious is beside the point. The response from Newcastle has been firm.
Why are they in a position to be so stubborn? Because they have already moved key assets. As Romano explained, “Newcastle sold Sandro Tonali, Newcastle sold Anthony Gordon, so now Newcastle don’t have any intention to let Bruno Guimaraes go.” Once a club has banked significant money elsewhere, pressure to cash in on another elite player drops sharply.
