Arsenal are preparing to appeal Max Dowman’s controversial red card following their extraordinary Carabao Cup elimination against Fleetwood Town, a result that has raised uncomfortable questions about Mikel Arteta’s squad and their ability to manage expectations.
According to a report published by ESPN, citing the Press Association, the Premier League champions intend to challenge the dismissal of their 16-year-old midfielder, who was sent off during Tuesday’s dramatic encounter.

Dowman’s dismissal arrived in the 85th minute after the teenager kicked out at Harrison Neal following a heavy challenge. Referee intervention brought an abrupt conclusion to his evening, leaving Arsenal to negotiate the closing stages with ten players.
Arteta briefly addressed Dowman as he departed the pitch, although the club’s subsequent decision to appeal suggests considerable disagreement with the punishment.

Arsenal must submit their appeal documentation to the Football Association by 1 p.m. on Thursday, with officials hoping for a decision before Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Liverpool.
There is an important distinction between understanding Dowman’s frustration and defending his reaction. At 16, emotional discipline remains part of his footballing education. Arsenal must establish whether the circumstances justify overturning the decision while ensuring their young prospect learns from the incident.
