Having fought both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte has considered the outcome of their potential clash which, as things stand, is still hanging in the balance.
It was announced last week that the two Brits will finally collide on December 11, headlining an event at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
Then, just a few days later, The Ring’s Mike Coppinger reported that issues behind the scenes could prevent their heavyweight showdown from taking place.
If it does go ahead, though, then Fury would likely be made a sizable favourite on account of his back-to-back victories over Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach.
While neither was a vintage performance, ‘The Gypsy King’ nonetheless encountered minimal danger whereas ‘AJ’, against Kristian Prenga, came dramatically close to getting stopped in the first round.
It was an innocuous-looking right uppercut, in fact, that floored him within the first 20 seconds of their July contest, with Joshua then crashing down to the canvas for a second time.
To his credit, however, the 36-year-old ended up stopping his man in the following round and, in turn, kept hopes alive for a domestic dustup with Fury.
It would therefore seem that Joshua remains a tremendous puncher, with Whyte telling RSBoxingTV that he could see Fury getting stopped in the first half of their contest.
“I think AJ by early stoppage, [but] Fury could [win by] late stoppage [or] on points.”
It was back in 2016 when Whyte suffered a seventh-round stoppage defeat to Joshua, before getting halted a round earlier by Fury in 2022.
