Having seemingly ditched his retirement plans, Derek Chisora has been offered a shot at taking on one of his former dance partners, who believes that the heavyweight veteran will accept the proposal.
Chisora promised to hang up the gloves after fight number 50 but, after his back-and-forth dust-up with Deontay Wilder did not go to plan, ‘Del Boy’ appeared to suggest a change of heart earlier this month.
Instead, the 42-year-old could now be poised to continue in the sport, believing that he still has more to give after a split-decision defeat to former WBC heavyweight world champion, which was his first loss since 2022.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Dillian Whyte, who beat Chisora in 2016 and 2018 but has looked out of sorts in recent contests, revealed that a trilogy affair could be on the horizon.
“He says he wants to fight me and he’s not going to retire.
“Not a lot of boxers get to have trilogies in their career. I’d love to fight him again. I think a trilogy would be great because we’re both at a stage of our careers where there won’t be a lot of running around, a lot of moving around.
“We’re going to stand there and trade. He doesn’t like me, I don’t like him. He doesn’t want to lose to me, I don’t want to lose to him.”
In terms of a fight date, Whyte added that he will not need long to prepare, declaring his willingness to take on Chisora this month, despite the latter’s gruelling clash with Wilder taking place less than four weeks ago.
“I’d love to make this fight happen in the next couple of months. He says he’ll be ready. I’ll be ready May, June time. If he wants it, I’ll be ready.”
Chisora would presumably require additional time to recover, but a potential victory over Whyte could serve as the perfect excuse, in his eyes, for him to continue to fight.
