Conor Benn’s manager has shut down talk of a Chris Eubank Jr trilogy, at least for the time being, as his client’s primary focus is to get back in the win column.
‘The Destroyer’ moved back down to 147lbs earlier this month, having not fought at the weight in over four years and never proven himself at world level.
Nevertheless, he attempted to dethrone WBC world champion Ryan Garcia, who ultimately floored his man with a crushing right hand that secured his second-round finish.
Even before the fight, though, Benn expressed how torturous it had been to make welterweight, where earlier performances saw him stop the faded likes of Chris van Heerden and Chris Algieri.
The Brit was then scheduled to face Eubank at a catchweight of 157lbs, only to test positive for banned substance clomifene and cause their 2022 contest to be cancelled.
Their rivalry was then revisited last year, this time at 160lbs and with a rehydration limit of 170lbs, which was designed to deplete Eubank and hamper his performance.
Benn, however, ended up losing their first encounter by unanimous decision, before winning their rematch by a wider margin after twice flooring his man in round 12.
Speaking with The Last Stand Podcast, the 30-year-old’s manager, Keith Connolly, said a Eubank rubber match could be explored after a pitstop at middleweight.
“The plan will be 160lbs, it looks like. And, at some point, after we get a win, maybe we’ll do that Chris Eubank trilogy up at 168lbs, so there’s no excuses [about the] weight.”
Up at super-middleweight, Benn is likely to be severely undersized while Eubank, at the age of 37, would only benefit from the extra 8lbs.
