Brentford appear to be edging towards one of the most intriguing deals of the summer, with SportsBILD reporting that talks over Cologne forward Said El Mala have now advanced to direct discussions with the player’s representatives.
For a club so often praised for its sharp recruitment, this would still represent a striking statement. El Mala, only 19, has produced 13 goals and three assists this season, numbers that explain why Brentford are willing to operate at a financial level rarely associated with them.
SportsBILD report that Brentford had initially been prepared to offer €40m as a base fee, plus a 15% sell-on clause. That proposal has now reportedly shifted to €45m immediately, with lower bonuses attached to achievable transfer targets and the same 15% sell-on fee.
