Aston Villa are braced for a pivotal phase in the future of Ollie Watkins, with Al-Hilal pushing to turn long-running interest into a completed transfer. According to Graeme Bailey for TeamTalk, the Saudi Pro League side are “continuing talks with Aston Villa” and are now ready to raise their offer after an earlier bid of around £38 million.
The key detail is clear. Villa are “looking for around £55million” for Watkins, although figures close to the discussions believe “a deal worth around £50million would likely be enough to convince Villa to sell”. That gives this situation a very obvious direction of travel, with Al-Hilal now aware of the level required to test Villa’s resolve properly.
Ollie Watkins Future Nears Key Stage
Watkins has emerged as a serious target for the Saudi club throughout the summer, and one line stands out above all others, “Personal terms with Watkins are already in place,” while the England striker “remains ready to make the move to Saudi Arabia.” For Villa, that shifts the balance of power. Once a player is open to leaving, the conversation becomes less about whether there is interest and more about whether the valuation can be met.
Villa have attempted to change that equation by offering Watkins “a new four-year contract”, an understandable move given his standing at Villa Park and his importance to the attack. Even so, with “two years remaining on his current contract”, this is now a situation that looks increasingly market-driven.
Aston Villa Line Up Replacement Options
Should Watkins depart, Villa already appear to have a succession plan. Their “long-term target remains Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson”, with Unai Emery reportedly attracted by the possibility of a reunion from their Villarreal days. TeamTalk adds that Chelsea are prepared to sanction an exit, though only on a permanent basis.
