Chelsea have made a strong start to the season with two wins in three Premier League fixtures, with their offensive department particularly impressing with some high quality plays and free-flowing goals early in the campaign.
Xabi Alonso remains keen on improving his squad depth and adding more firepower to his roster, and if he continues to impress, there is every reason to believe the board will back him with more funds in the transfer market next year.
El Nacional has reported that the Chelsea hierarchy is already moving in a forward direction with Alonso, with the club prepared to fork out £103 million to sign Barcelona star Fermin Lopez, with Alonso’s approach for him already receiving the approval.
After missing out on the World Cup with an injury, the Spanish international has made an excellent start to the season with four goals and two assists in La Liga, having started each of Barca’s games in the Spanish top division so far.
Lopez an excellent signing for Chelsea
Following Enzo Fernandez’s departure for Manchester City, there is a massive hole in the Chelsea midfield and among several players linked with a move to Stamford Bridge lately, Fermin Lopez has all that it takes to be a worthy replacement.
Lopez is excellent with the ball at his feet. He plays effective forward passes and through balls, has good close control and plays with a positive intent. His late runs in the box and shooting from range allow him to contribute to the goods directly up front.
Defensively, the 23-year-old works hard to press high up the pitch, man marks superbly and reads the game very well to make interceptions and tackles. His all-round attributes mean Fermin Lopez will be an ideal fit in Xabi Alonso’s setup.
