According to The Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, Arsenal could pursue a loan deal for Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford once Gabriel Martinelli heads for the exit door.
The Gunners have made just one attacking signing this summer in Christos Tzolis. The Greek arrived as a replacement for Leandro Trossard on the left wing, and has already accumulated a couple of assists.
Arsenal seem keen on landing another left-sided winger before the transfer deadline. They are close to finalising the transfer of Martinelli to Al-Hilal, and could pursue a quality replacement in the next few days.
Delaney has now revealed that Arsenal could explore a loan move for Rashford once they part ways with Martinelli.
Premier League experience
Rashford spent the previous season on loan with Barcelona in La Liga after falling out of favour under then-United manager Ruben Amorim. He had a terrific campaign with the Spanish champions, registering 14 goals and 15 assists (29 goal involvements).
The Englishman averaged a goal contribution in every 90 minutes for the Catalan giants, but they decided against pursuing a permanent deal, much to the surprise of many. They ended up recruiting Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United instead.
Rashford has since rejoined the Man United squad under new head coach Michael Carrick, but his future remains a topic of speculation, given he faces competition from Matheus Cunha as well as Patrick Dorgu for the left-wing position at the Red Devils.
The United graduate can play upfront on his own, but there is fierce competition there too. Benjamin Sesko is the regular number 9, while Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee, who has been linked with a possible move to Serie A, can also play there.
Hence, there is a possibility that Rashford could move on before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. A loan deal would be appropriate for the Gunners as they don’t need to commit a transfer fee and could pay the forward’s hefty £300,000 per week wages in full instead.
