Chelsea are preparing to move on Levi Colwill’s long-term future, with fresh contract discussions expected to become a priority in 2027 while Liverpool continue to monitor the situation closely, according to TEAMtalk.
The position from Stamford Bridge appears clear. Chelsea want Colwill to remain central to their plans and there is no indication of any appetite to sell. The 23-year-old has grown into one of the Premier League’s standout young centre-backs since stepping into the first-team picture in 2023, and his status within the club has only strengthened.
Colwill’s rise has been carefully tracked across the game. After productive loan spells with Huddersfield Town and Brighton, he returned to west London and has since justified the faith shown in him. TEAMtalk reports that “Chelsea are ready to open discussions with Levi Colwill over a new contract”, with the defender’s progression making an upgraded deal an obvious item on the club’s agenda.
Levi Colwill contract plans taking shape
There is no urgency in the immediate sense because Colwill is already tied down until 2029, and Chelsea also hold an option to extend. Even so, the feeling internally is that his current terms no longer fully reflect his development and standing. As the report puts it, “the club recognise that an improved long-term agreement will be required.”
That point matters. Clubs at the top end of the Premier League increasingly look to act early with elite young talent, particularly when that talent is homegrown and already embedded in the first team. Chelsea’s intention is to reward progress and protect a key asset before the situation becomes noisy.

It is also significant that any fresh agreement is “more likely to take shape in 2027 rather than being concluded immediately.” That gives Chelsea time, but it also ensures Colwill’s future will remain a live theme in the background.
