The 16-year-old remains registered with United, yet the direction of travel now points firmly towards Spain ahead of a potential January move.
Gabriel has not returned to United since leaving in September, having been widely tipped for a rapid breakthrough into senior football. He featured against Atletico Madrid on the club’s pre-season tour and had been expected to become United’s youngest debutant in the Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton. Instead, he has spent time training alone in Spain while assessing his options.

Interest has been strong across Europe, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also aware of the situation, but Real Madrid appear to have moved decisively.
