According to The Athletic, Manchester United are weighing up a possible move for Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils find themselves short in the centre-forward department with Benjamin Sesko on the sidelines for the long-term. The Slovenian has not played for a month with a recurring shin problem and could now be sidelined until January or even further.
This has increased the need for a new marksman at the start of the year and The Athletic claim that the Mancunian giants have made background checks on Calvert-Lewin despite the fact that Leeds are unlikely to entertain a mid-season sale to their fierce rivals.
The Yorkshire outfit appreciate the striker’s influence on the team since he arrived last year, and they are instead planning to hand him a new long-term contract to put an end to the speculation.
Unlikely
Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds on a free transfer from Everton in the summer of 2025 after snubbing a new contract. He had a difficult final four years at Everton with just 18 goals amid numerous injury concerns.
The Englishman has overcome his injury woes and transformed his fortunes with the Whites. He notched up 15 goals during the previous campaign and has already netted five this term under manager Daniel Farke.
He has impressed with his hold-up play, aerial presence and offered a potent scoring threat in the box. United are craving for such a presence in their side with the continued absence of Sesko from matchday squads.
Joshua Zirkzee is a striker with plenty of height but has barely impressed since his switch from Bologna. He has looked lightweight in duels and has yet to start a game under manager Michael Carrick this season.
Hence, United are exploring a deal for Calvert-Lewin but it seems unlikely that a move will materialise. Leeds are fully content with the output from the ex-Evertonian and they are currently close to extending his stay.
His contract expires in June 2028 and BBC Sport have today reported that the 29-year-old is set to put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal very soon. Hence, United may have to look elsewhere for a top quality…..
