Manchester United’s transfer planning appears to have shifted quickly from summer execution to winter positioning, with Louis Page now emerging as one of the most intriguing names on their medium-term agenda. According to Manchester Evening News, discussions with Leicester City remain active over a move for the 18-year-old, and there is a growing sense that groundwork is being laid well before the January transfer window opens.
United closed the summer with five arrivals and a significant remodelling of midfield, bringing in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, while Karl Darlow and Tynan Thompson added depth in other areas. Even so, the recruitment team clearly did not view that business as the end of the process. A left-back was explored late on, and Page was also firmly in the conversation before the deadline passed without agreement.

The key point now is that negotiations have not been abandoned. Instead, the structure of the package is understood to be the main obstacle. The broad valuation, around £10m with a further £2.5m in add-ons, seems relatively clear. The challenge is in how that £10m is paid and how the performance-related elements are framed.
That detail often decides whether a deal is straightforward or drifts, especially when one club is protecting a prized young asset and the other is trying to maintain flexibility. In this case, there appears to be enough willingness on both sides to keep talking, which usually matters more than any single sticking point at this stage.
There is also a strategic element to this pursuit. United are thought to be open to finalising an agreement before January and then allowing Page to remain with Leicester for the rest of the season. That would fit a modern development model, securing the player while preserving regular football in a competitive environment.
