Eintracht Frankfurt are revisiting their pursuit of Arnaud Kalimuendo, with the Nottingham Forest forward back on the Bundesliga club’s shortlist ahead of the January transfer window. According to TEAMtalk, Frankfurt are preparing a fresh move after failing to land the 24-year-old on a permanent basis in the summer.
Kalimuendo is a known quantity at Deutsche Bank Park. He spent the second half of last season there on loan, returning six goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances and becoming a trusted option in the forward line. Frankfurt liked what they saw, but finances blocked a full deal. They had an option to buy for €27million (£22.4m), yet “declined to activate it, citing the fee as too high for their budget.”

Discussions did not end there. Further efforts in the summer also fell short, with Forest “demanding a figure in excess of €30m (£25m) and preferring a full transfer over another temporary deal.” That stance made a breakthrough difficult, but circumstances have shifted since Kalimuendo returned to the City Ground.

The striker has found opportunities hard to come by this season. He has largely been used from the bench and is “yet to score a goal in the Premier League.” That change in status has kept Bundesliga interest alive, with “sources in Germany describing the chances of a January move as possible.”
January Transfer Window Could Offer Forest a Decision
Frankfurt’s current thinking appears flexible. The report states that “Club sources in Frankfurt indicate they are open to another loan, this time potentially structured with an option or obligation to buy, rather than meeting Forest’s previous permanent asking price.” That detail matters, because Forest were previously resistant to another straight loan unless the terms worked strongly in their favour.
