Tottenham remain keen on the potential transfer of Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo even as they also make progress on a deal for Manchester City’s Savinho.
I’ve been reliably informed by my contacts with ties to the agents industry that “Spurs are actively working on both” potential deals as manager Roberto De Zerbi is eager to strengthen his front line for the season ahead.
While Savinho is a more realistic target for Tottenham and things seem to be progressing well as the Brazilian has informed Man City that he wants the move, there is still some uncertainty over Gakpo.
The Netherlands international could be available this summer after a difficult spell at Anfield, but this will likely hinge on Liverpool landing Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
We’ve previously reported on Spurs preparing a move for Gakpo, and while things haven’t advanced that far yet, it’s an ongoing topic and a priority for the north Londoners as they wait for the green light.
Liverpool waiting for new signings before letting Cody Gakpo go
I’m told that Liverpool’s lengthy efforts to secure the signing of Barcola are a sign of how complicated and expensive the deal is likely to be, so there’s no guarantee at this stage that it goes through.
However, most leading sources view it as likely due to PSG making new attacking signings of their own, further pushing Barcola down the pecking order when he was already unsure about his long-term future and reluctant to sign a new contract.
It might take a while for LFC to make significant progress on the France international, but the feeling is that once they do they could allow Gakpo to leave.
For now, however, they don’t want to commit to that sale as the lack of a new signing out wide would mean the Reds remain reliant on Gakpo for the season ahead.
Who else is in for Cody Gakpo?
As previously reported, Newcastle United also like Gakpo, but this has not…
