Brentford have built a reputation for finding players before their value reaches its peak. In Mamadou Sangaré, however, the club have done more than uncover another promising talent. They have paid a club-record fee for one of Ligue 1’s outstanding midfielders, giving him a five-year contract with the option of another season. His performances also earned him a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year and the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé, awarded to the leading African player in the French top flight.
Those honours demonstrate that Brentford are not simply purchasing potential. Sangaré has already performed consistently for a successful team under substantial pressure. He contributed three league goals and four assists across 29 Ligue 1 appearances, but his influence extended well beyond his attacking output. His mobility, defensive work and ability to control central areas made him a fundamental part of the Lens midfield.
