Following weeks of uncertainty, the long-awaited showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury seems close to being finalised for later this year.
The two British heavyweights completed their respective warm-up fights in July and, since then, there has been increasing doubt over whether their clash will even take place.
Things started to become problematic, it seems, when Netflix began pushing for the fight to be staged in America while Joshua, and indeed Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, had already signed to collide with Fury in the UK.
It appears the involvement of Dana White did not help matters, either, as the Zuffa Boxing promoter was particularly keen on Madison Square Garden as a venue.
But while the event did, indeed, seem as if it was heading to New York, veteran boxing journalist Dan Rafael is now reporting Cardiff’s Principality Stadium as the likely destination.
This therefore indicates that Netflix and Sela – Saudi Arabia’s sports and entertainment company – are willing to abandon their preferred location and agree to an all-British extravaganza in Wales.
Taking to social media, Rafael also highlighted December 11 as a likely date.
“Per source with direct involvement, [Joshua-Fury], if all is 100% buttoned up, will be on [December] 11 in Cardiff. Still will take some time to wrap up the bureaucracy of getting permits in place. [November] 28 and [December] 4 were also dates part of the discussion.”

Part of the reason for event handlers favouring Cardiff, as opposed to London’s Wembley Stadium, is because the Principality has a roof to account for the British weather during winter.
