DC Police chief confirms shooter had multiple guns and knives
Interim Metropolitan Police Department Chief Jeffrey Carroll said 31-year-old alleged shooter Cole Thomas Allen attempted to bring multiple weapons into the heavily guarded White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Carroll confirmed in a press conference that he had a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives.
‘But at this point it does appear he is a lone actor, a lone gunman. There does not appear to be any sort of danger to the public.’
Carroll, the interim police chief, said that he could not say at this point what the shooter’s motivation was, and that it is too soon to know who the suspect had intended to target in the shooting.
He said investigators believe that the suspect was staying in the hotel and that appears to be how he was able to enter the hotel at the time of the event.
Carroll said the suspect was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, but he was not struck by gunfire.
