Tottenham look to be moving closer to a major decision on Cristian Romero, with Inter Milan stepping up talks over a deal for the Argentina defender. According to SportMediaset, negotiations have intensified and there is growing confidence in Italy that this one can be done.
Romero, now 28, appears ready for the move. The key point here is simple, once a player has made his preference clear, the selling club usually loses a chunk of its leverage. That seems to be where Tottenham are now. Romero is reported to be keen on returning to Serie A, five years after leaving Atalanta, and Inter are using that position to press for more favourable terms.
The proposed structure is telling. Inter are preparing an initial offer worth €40 million, built around a loan with a mandatory purchase clause. Tottenham had been looking for €50 million, which is understandable given Romero’s standing, his experience and his importance to the side. But markets do not work on sentiment. They work on timing, pressure and willingness from all parties.
