The Premier League remains the richest domestic football league in the world, and its financial dominance is still growing. The latest publicly available figures show that Premier League clubs generated around £6.8bn in combined revenue in 2024/25, up from roughly £6.3bn the previous season. With a new broadcast cycle beginning in 2025/26, annual league revenue is expected to move beyond £7bn.
That scale of income gives Premier League clubs a huge advantage in the transfer market. Even mid-table and newly promoted sides can often compete with major European clubs on fees and wages, while the league’s biggest names continue to operate among the richest clubs in world football.
Television Rights: The Engine Room of the League
Broadcasting is still the Premier League’s biggest financial driver. Domestic and international TV deals provide the foundation for club income, allowing the league to distribute large central payments to all 20 teams.
The latest domestic UK broadcast agreement, covering the cycle from 2025/26 to 2028/29, is worth around £6.7bn over four years. Sky Sports and TNT Sports remain the main live rights holders, while BBC Sport retains highlights coverage. The deal also includes a larger number of live matches than previous cycles, meaning broadcasters are paying more overall but receiving more content in return.
International rights are now just as important — and arguably even more important — than the domestic market. Overseas broadcast revenue has continued to rise sharply, reflecting the league’s global appeal across North America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The Premier League is no longer just an English product; it is a global entertainment property.
How TV Money Is Shared
One of the reasons the Premier League is so competitive financially is the way central revenue is distributed. A sizeable portion of broadcast income is shared equally between all clubs, while additional payments are linked to league position and how often a team is selected for live TV.
