According to The Athletic, the newly promoted Premier League side have “sent Manchester City an offer to sign Jack Grealish on loan”, a proposal that would involve City covering part of his wages and would also include “the possibility to make the move permanent next summer when his City contract expires”.
That is not a minor enquiry dressed up as ambition. It is a serious approach for a player whose reputation still carries weight, whose talent remains vivid in the imagination, and whose career now seems to sit at one of those awkward junctions where status and utility no longer quite align. At 30, Grealish is no longer the future of Manchester City. He may, however, still be the sort of footballer capable of transforming the emotional weather of a stadium.
