Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on one of the biggest transfers of the summer after agreeing a deal with Manchester City for Savinho. Spurs are expected to pay an initial £75 million, with a further £10 million available through performance-related add-ons, taking the potential value of the move to £85 million.
The size of the package has inevitably attracted attention. Savinho is an exciting 22-year-old Brazil international, but he has not established himself as an automatic starter at Manchester City and produced only modest numbers during the 2025/26 season. Tottenham are therefore paying primarily for his potential, tactical suitability and future value rather than an established record of elite-level output.
What Is the Current Position?
Tottenham and Manchester City have reached an agreement in principle worth £75 million up front and as much as £10 million in add-ons. Savinho has been given permission to undergo a medical before completing the transfer and signing a long-term contract in north London.
The agreement represents the culmination of a pursuit lasting more than a year. Tottenham explored a move for Savinho during the previous summer window, but City retained the winger and subsequently secured him on a contract running until 2031. Spurs have now returned with a significantly larger offer to convince City to sell.
Although the transfer is widely described as an £85 million deal, the guaranteed amount is lower. The final cost will depend on which performance-related add-ons are triggered, although reports indicate that some of the bonus payments may be relatively achievable.
Why Is Savinho Costing So Much?
The obvious challenge to the valuation is Savinho’s recent output.
He made only seven Premier League starts during the 2025/26 campaign and scored four goals across 36 appearances in all competitions. Across his two league seasons with City, his goalscoring return remained limited, despite showing moments of high-level dribbling and creativity.
Those numbers do not immediately resemble an £85 million player. The reported price is therefore based on factors beyond goals, assists and recent minutes.
