Pundit claims Chelsea star should have seen red in Derby clash

Gary Neville believes Chelsea should have finished their defeat against Tottenham with nine players after Morgan Rogers received only a yellow card for a late challenge on Conor Gallagher.

The incident came as Chelsea’s frustration spilled into the closing stages of a 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer had already been dismissed, while an own goal from Mike Penders and a fine Mathys Tel strike had put Spurs in control.

Speaking on Sky Sports commentary, Neville argued that Rogers’s challenge deserved a stronger punishment. His assessment added another disciplinary talking point to an afternoon in which Chelsea struggled to match Tottenham’s authority.

It was an emphatic reaction to an incident that arrived with Chelsea already facing defeat. Gallagher, a former Chelsea midfielder, had also been involved in the challenge that brought Palmer’s dismissal.

His comments were a judgement on the challenge and Chelsea’s composure. Rogers remained on the pitch, and the actual punishment was a booking. The distinction matters: Neville was calling for a dismissal, rather than describing a decision the officials had made.

Palmer’s own disciplinary trouble had begun before Tottenham scored.

A confrontation with Mateus Fernandes brought a booking, with Palmer making contact with the Spurs midfielder while he was on the ground. He subsequently challenged Gallagher and received the second yellow card that ended his involvement.

“Palmer has lost his head,” Neville said…
