Arsenal are moving towards an opening offer for Bruno Guimaraes, with TeamTalk reporting growing belief in north London that a summer deal can be done. The figure under discussion is around £70m, while there is also a view that an agreement could eventually land nearer £80m.
From Newcastle United’s side, the message is firm and consistent. Any proposal at that level is going nowhere. According to the report, an Arsenal bid is “not welcome, not wanted and will not be accepted.” That wording offers a strong indication of how St James’ Park currently views the situation.
Arsenal Push Bruno Guimaraes Deal
Arsenal’s interest is understandable. Guimaraes remains one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders, a player capable of dictating tempo, winning duels and lifting the technical standard of any side around him. The report states that Mikel Arteta sees the 28-year-old as the ideal addition, while Andrea Berta is continuing work behind the scenes in an effort to advance the move.
There is another significant element here. TeamTalk claims “Guimaraes has informed Newcastle that he would like to leave St James’ Park this summer” and that he would prefer clarity before pre-season begins later this month. That is important, even if it has not changed Newcastle’s stance.
At present, Newcastle are due to head to La Manga as part of their summer preparations and expect the Brazil international to report as normal. There is no suggestion from the club that a line has been crossed.
