Arsenal begin the defence of their Premier League title on Friday night, and Mikel Arteta already has an early selection issue to manage.
Bruno Guimaraes has emerged as an injury concern ahead of the meeting with newly promoted Coventry City after being seen with ice strapped to his right thigh. For Arteta, the positive is that his midfield options remain considerably stronger than they once were.
Guimaraes Fitness Remains Uncertain
The sight of Guimaraes receiving treatment understandably caused some concern, particularly given how central the Brazilian has become to Arsenal’s midfield structure.

Arsenal Midfield Depth Offers Arteta Options
Guimaraes missing out would still leave Arteta with several credible alternatives.
Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice are both capable of operating alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly, giving Arsenal a range of combinations depending on how Arteta wants his side to approach the match.
Rice offers power, defensive security and the ability to carry possession through midfield. Zubimendi provides greater control and positional discipline, particularly when Arsenal are attempting to dominate possession against opponents…
