Manchester United have intensified efforts to sign West Ham United midfield sensation Mateus Fernandes.

The Portuguese international’s future has become a massive talking point as West Ham United are on the verge of getting relegated to the Championship. If they do fail to survive the drop, the Hammers will find it impossible to keep hold of the 21-year-old.

Fernandes has been labelled as a ‘fantastic’ player.

Mateus Fernandes looks set to leave West Ham this summer

Manchester United are keen on signing Mateus Fernandes, and according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Red Devils have stepped up their efforts to bring the West Ham sensation to Old Trafford this summer.

While speaking about his future on Transfer Insider Podcast, O’Rourke said, “Man United and a number of clubs will be hoping to take advantage of any potential West Ham relegation with Mateus Fernandes.

“He’s on that long list of midfield targets that United are looking at.

“If West Ham go down, it’ll be almost impossible to keep hold of the Portuguese midfielder because I’m sure he won’t want to be playing in the Championship.

“There’ll be a number of clubs, not just Manchester United who will be keeping tabs on Fernandes and West Ham’s survival fight as well.

“And I think it’ll be real tough battle for West Ham to keep hold of him, especially if they go down.”

While the Hammers have struggled throughout the ongoing campaign, the 21-year-old has stood out with his consistent performances. He has had quite an impact in his debut campaign at the London club.
