Manchester United’s summer planning has centred largely on midfield, with the sense around Old Trafford that the forward line did not require immediate surgery. That thinking was understandable after Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo all made meaningful contributions under Michael Carrick, helping stabilise the attack after his arrival in place of Ruben Amorim.
Yet transfer windows rarely move in straight lines. Even where a club feels comfortable in one area, interest from Europe’s elite can quickly force a rethink. In this case, Bayern Munich’s continued admiration for Sesko has the potential to create precisely that scenario for United.
According to Christian Falk of CFBayern Insider, Bayern have not moved on from the Slovenia international. Their current priority may not be a centre-forward, especially after spending £47 million on Ismael Saibari, but the name remains in the conversation internally. That alone is enough to attract attention at United, given Sesko’s importance to the squad and the shortage of elite No 9s on the market.

Falk explained Bayern’s thinking clearly, saying: “The Slovenian is still on the list, and he’s a player who is very interesting for FC Bayern.
“Perhaps, if he’s struggling to make his mark in the Premier League, they could return to this idea. The plan for the future, nonetheless, is to sign another striker who can be Harry Kane’s successor while also being capable of playing in a two-striker system. This is one of Vincent Kompany’s key ideas.”

That points to a medium-term possibility rather than an immediate push, but it is still significant. Bayern already have Harry Kane, yet they appear to be thinking beyond the present and towards succession planning. Sesko’s profile suits that strategy, offering a more direct, penalty-box presence and a different tactical option from Kane’s link-heavy approach.
