Manchester United have started making checks on River Plate goalkeeper Santiago Beltran, according to Metro, and the interest says plenty about how quickly the conversation can change around a club still searching for certainty in key positions.
Beltran is only 21, yet his profile is already rising sharply. He made his senior Argentina debut over the summer and is viewed in his homeland as a possible long-term successor to Emiliano Martinez. That alone places him in a serious bracket. Goalkeepers tend to be judged slowly, but they are also tracked early, and Europe’s biggest clubs rarely wait until the price climbs out of reach.
The situation at River Plate looks significant. Beltran is under contract until December 2027, but negotiations over a fresh deal are reportedly stalling. His representatives, who also work with Martinez, appear keen to open a route into European football soon. That creates an obvious opening for clubs with ambition, resources and a need to plan beyond the next 12 months.
Beltran interest hints at long-term planning
Inter Milan are also said to be watching closely, while Aston Villa had previously been linked before moving for Zion Suzuki. Juventus and Real Betis have also been mentioned in connection with the young Argentine. When that many major clubs circle the same player, it usually reflects more than speculative noise. It suggests a goalkeeper with pedigree, personality and room to grow.
For United, the timing is interesting. Senne Lammens arrived as first choice last summer and has adapted impressively to Premier League life. He has looked calm, athletic and largely assured. Behind him, the picture has changed. Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir are both out on loan, at Trabzonspor and Celta Vigo respectively, while Karl Darlow was recruited as experienced cover. Radek Vitek has also moved on, joining Middlesbrough.
