Manchester United reportedly remain keen to sign Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, according to reputed journalist Dean Jones.
After a disappointing start under Ruben Amorim last term, the Red Devils parted ways with the Portuguese and appointed Michael Carrick as interim manager.
The English boss turned the situation around and guided United to finish third in the table. Having helped Man Utd qualify for the Champions League, Carrick was appointed as the club’s permanent manager.
However, the Old Trafford club have endured a dire start this season, accumulating only six points from as many league matches. They have won only two out of nine games across all competitions thus far. As a result, pressure has started building on Carrick.
Meanwhile, with the winter transfer window edging closer, Man Utd have seemingly started exploring options to strengthen the squad and turn the situation around.
Now, on Flashscore, Jones reports that following Luke Shaw’s ongoing fitness problems, Man Utd are planning to bolster the left-back and are keen on signing Hall.
Initially, United expressed their interest in the Englishman this summer, but Newcastle refused to let him leave and have now managed to tie him down to a fresh term until 2031.
Therefore, Newcastle are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in next year and want more than £85m[€100m].
Hall to Man Utd
Apart from Shaw, United currently have Patrick Dorgu as a left-back option, but he picked up a hamstring problem during international duty with Denmark. So, he is set to remain sidelined for a few weeks.
Noussair Mazraoui can also provide cover in this position, but he has also been out injured. So, Carrick deployed Ayden Heaven in the left-back position vs Atlético Madrid.
Hall is a Premier League-proven player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club eventually manage to lure him away from St James’ Park in January or next…..
