Manchester United need a left-back. That much is obvious, and it has been obvious for too long. According to TeamTalk, Bournemouth defender Adrien Truffert has emerged as a serious target, though this is already shaping up as the sort of chase that gets expensive, crowded and awkward very quickly.
The key detail is simple. Bournemouth are in no mood to sell cheaply, and “a fee in the region of £60m (€71m, $79m) would be required to prise Truffert away from Bournemouth in January.” For a player who arrived from Rennes in 2025, that is a major markup. It is also the going rate when supply is low and demand is high.
And right now, demand is high. The report states that Manchester United are expected to face “serious competition” from Liverpool and a clutch of major European clubs. That matters because once the market forms a queue, the selling club gains leverage and the buying club loses room to negotiate.
