Manchester City are edging towards one of the biggest deals of the summer, with Ayyoub Bouaddi now seemingly within touching distance of the Etihad. According to TeamTalk, talks have moved on significantly in recent days and there is growing confidence that City will get this over the line.
This has all the hallmarks of a modern City move, decisive, strategic and aimed firmly at the future. Bouaddi is only 18, yet his stock has soared after catching the eye on the biggest stage and becoming one of the most coveted young midfielders in Europe. When a player is drawing interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, you know the talent level is exceptional. City appear to have stolen a march.
Ayyoub Bouaddi transfer points to City certainty
The numbers involved are huge. Lille have stood firm at around £85m and City are now said to be close to meeting that valuation, with only final details to iron out. If completed at that figure, Bouaddi would become the most expensive teenage midfielder in football history, a remarkable statement from a club that clearly believe they are signing a player capable of shaping their midfield for the next decade.

That is the striking part here. This is not a move framed as a gamble on raw talent. It is being presented more like a declaration of belief. City see Bouaddi as someone who can grow into a central figure, a midfield anchor with the tools to take on vast responsibility in time.
The shift in the structure of the deal is also revealing. Lille had been open to a sale, but preferred Bouaddi to return on loan for another season. City were willing to entertain that idea earlier in the process, yet the mood has changed. Enzo Maresca wants him involved with the first team straight away and that vision appears to have convinced the player that now is the moment to make the leap.
