Jarell Quansah has been banned for two games following his red card against Mexico at the World Cup.Â
Days after Donald Trump intervened to give US striker Folarin Balogun a lifeline, no such mercy has been granted for England defender Quansah, who was dismissed following a reckless challenge during the Three Lions’ 3-2 win at the Azteca.Â
It means he will miss Saturday night’s quarter-final against Norway in Miami, and will also be sidelined for the semi-final should England advance.Â
The English FA had considered appealing Quansah’s red card in the wake of FIFA’s controversial decision to suspend Balogun’s one-match suspension following his sending off against Bosnia & Herzegovina in the round of 32.Â
US president Trump called FIFA boss Gianni Infantino to plead for the striker to play against Belgium in the last-16, paving the way for the unprecedented suspension of his ban.Â
