Fabrizio Romano’s possible Cristian Romero Arsenal transfer hint

Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to bid again for the transfer of Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero, but has Fabrizio Romano also hinted at an Arsenal hijack?

According to his latest post on X about the Romero saga, Romano said: “Atlético Madrid will send new bid for Cuti Romero soon as Molina and Almada exits are done with Ruggeri expected to follow.

“Atléti will bid for €40m package, trying to avoid any hijacks. Talks still ongoing on player side.”

This follows Romero being linked with Arsenal recently by both Romano and the Athletic, and it seems Atletico are eager to move quickly to avoid being beaten to the Argentina international’s signature…

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal do attempt a hijack, but it’s perhaps hard to see it being successful as Tottenham will surely do everything they can to avoid selling an important player to their biggest rivals.

Could Arsenal have a realistic shot at signing Cristian Romero?

It’s extremely rare for Arsenal and Spurs to do business, but could there perhaps be a scenario here that means they’re powerless to prevent Romero from moving to the Emirates Stadium?

According to El Desmarque, the Gunners seem pretty serious about signing Romero, and could try submitting an offer.

Interestingly, the report adds that the 28-year-old has a £55m release clause for Premier League clubs, so although it isn’t entirely clear if AFC are going to trigger that clause, it remains an option for them.
