Everton’s summer already carries the familiar feel of transition, renewal and quiet calculation. According to information originally reported by The Independent, the club are in talks with Idrissa Gueye over a new contract, a move that would keep the Senegal international on Merseyside until he is almost 38.

His involvement with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations also shaped his season, with his country first winning the competition before being stripped of the title.
Still, Everton clearly value what he brings. His partnership with James Garner gave the team bite, balance and a sense of positional security. In a squad that has too often lacked calm leadership, Gueye remains a useful reference point.
