England’s Injury Concerns: Why Tuchel’s Biggest Problem May Be Balance, Not Just Fitness

England’s World Cup campaign has reached the stage where every selection call is magnified. The performances have not always been convincing, but Thomas Tuchel’s side are still alive — and now face a demanding last-16 tie against Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.

The biggest issue, though, is not simply who starts. It is who is fit enough to start, who can last 90 minutes, and whether England can avoid weakening one area of the pitch to patch up another.

If James is fit, he should start. If he is only half-fit, England have a decision to make.

The Right-Back Problem Has Escalated

James’ injury would be less of a crisis if England had a natural, fully fit deputy. They do not.

Tino Livramento was forced out before the tournament, which immediately reduced Tuchel’s options. Jarell Quansah has also been dealing with an ankle issue, while Djed…
