Do Managerial Changes Really Produce a New-Manager Bounce?

Changing a manager is one of the most dramatic decisions a Premier League club can make. Results have deteriorated, supporters are frustrated and the threat of relegation or missing a major objective is growing. Appointing someone new offers the possibility of an immediate reset.

That initial improvement is commonly described as the “new-manager bounce”. Players appear more energetic, the atmosphere changes and results suddenly improve.
