Chelsea are moving decisively to protect one of their most highly regarded young assets, with TeamTalk reporting that Josh Acheampong is being lined up for a substantial new contract at Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old defender has drawn admiration from across the Premier League and Europe, yet Chelsea’s position appears increasingly clear. The club want to reward his development, strengthen their leverage and make it plain that any hopes of a summer breakthrough from rivals will go nowhere.
Acheampong, capable of operating at centre-back or right-back, is described as a player “held in huge regard at Stamford Bridge” and one viewed as “an important part of Xabi Alonso’s plans for the future”. That assessment helps explain why Chelsea are acting now, despite the fact his current contract already runs until 2029.
