Chelsea star keen on summer exit with European clubs interested

Chelsea are again approaching a familiar crossroads with Trevoh Chalobah, and the latest indications suggest this summer may finally bring a permanent split. According to TeamTalk, Como have revived contact over a deal for the academy graduate after earlier talks stalled, with the Serie A club still pushing to land him.

This situation has been building for weeks. Chalobah, now 27, has found himself edged towards the exit once more, with Chelsea’s centre-back department overcrowded and the club actively prepared to listen to offers. The key backdrop is Xabi Alonso’s clear intention to reduce numbers in that area. The Chelsea head coach has stated a preference for just “four or five” defenders in his central unit, a message that leaves little room for uncertainty.

Como remain in the race for Chalobah

Como, led by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, have made their interest plain. Their opening proposals, reported to be around £23m, were knocked back. A second wave, worth roughly £26m plus add-ons, also failed to meet Chelsea’s valuation. The London club are understood to want £30m plus £5m in bonuses for a player who still has two years remaining on his contract, plus an option for another season.

What keeps this live is the player’s stance. Chalobah is said to be keen on the move, attracted by the chance of living in Italy and working under Fàbregas. After a meeting on 26 July appeared to bring negotiations to a halt, renewed dialogue now leaves the door open to another formal offer.

Chelsea squad planning under Xabi Alonso

The wider context is impossible to ignore. Chelsea’s £52 million signing of Maxence Lacroix has added another body to a defensive pool already containing Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Mamadou Sarr, Benoît Badiashile and Axel Disasi. In simple terms, there are too many centre-backs and Chalobah is among those considered expendable.

That judgement feels especially stark given his journey….
