Chelsea sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City late in the summer transfer window and have not replaced the Argentine international, with his absence in their team leaving a visible hole.
Xabi Alonso is believed to be keen on the addition of another midfielder, particularly somebody that can help in the creative department and on that note, it is expected that the Blues will be in the transfer market in 2027.
Spanish source Diario Sport has reported that Chelsea are considering a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch international will be allowed to leave the La Liga side for £55 million.
With that said, De Jong has a contract at Camp Nou until June 2029 so he will not be pushed out of Barcelona, who will wait until a suitable offer is received for him, whereas the player’s wishes will carry strong weight too.

Frenkie de Jong promises to be a terrific signing for Chelsea next year. Though he has resisted the chance to join a new club in previous transfer windows, he may be tempted by the Blues’ project and the opportunity to feature in the Premier League.

His technical strengths combined with a strong tactical awareness make him a solid choice for Chelsea, who will feel like a £55 million investment in 2027 on a player in the prime years of his career might be well justified.
It will be interesting to see how De Jong’s role at Barcelona develops in the next few months after he recovers from a meniscus injury that has kept him out for the start of this season.
With Pedri and Rodri becoming indispensable for Hansi Flick, this season may be crucial in influencing De Jong’s…..
