Chelsea have now emerged as serious contenders in the growing race for Jhon Lucumi, with Quotidiano Sports reporting that Bologna’s defender is attracting renewed and increasingly forceful attention from the Premier League.
The situation is developing quickly. Juventus have already seen an opening proposal rejected and, despite returning with an improved package, they remain short of Bologna’s asking price. That has created space for English clubs to test the waters, and Chelsea are understood to be among those doing exactly that.
The numbers outlined are clear. Juventus opened with an offer worth £15 million plus £3 million in bonuses, before raising that to £18 million plus add-ons. Bologna’s position, though, has barely shifted. Their valuation remains £25 million plus £3 million, a figure they were prepared to accept elsewhere and one they now appear determined to protect.

From Chelsea’s perspective, the interest makes sense. Bologna’s Colombian centre-back fits a profile that has become increasingly relevant in the market, a left-sided central defender with top-level experience and a reputation for composure in possession. With movement around Chelsea’s defensive options continuing, Lucumi has clearly entered the club’s thinking.
The wider chain of events matters here. Como are said to have shifted their focus to Trevoh Chalobah and completed a deal worth £30 million, while Napoli have explored Benoit Badiashile as part of their own defensive plans. That leaves Chelsea in a position where outgoing business could sharpen the need for another central defender, ideally one comfortable on the left side.
