Conor Benn challenges for the WBC welterweight title as he collides with Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas next month, and now four-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has predicted how ‘The Destroyer’ would have fared against Amir Khan.
Benn has not boxed at 147lbs since April 2022, but the Briton was installed as the mandatory challenger for Garcia’s title when he announced plans to return to the weight division, after a run of five bouts in higher weight-classes.
Still, Benn has since revealed that this welterweight outing will be his last, planning on either returning to super-welterweight or campaigning as a middleweight during the aftermath, regardless of the outcome of his showdown with Garcia.
Meanwhile, Khan was electric as a super-lightweight, claiming the WBA super-lightweight world title and defending it against the likes of Paulie Malignaggi and Marcos Maidana before knocking out IBF titleholder Zab Judah in a unification showdown.
However, when challenging for the WBC welterweight world title against Terence Crawford in 2019, Khan came up short and suffered a sixth-round stoppage defeat, in what turned out to be the final world title bout of his career.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ predicted how a welterweight affair between Khan and Benn would play out, believing that the speed of the Bolton fan-favourite would prove to be too much for Benn.
“Yeah, Khan [wins]. He has got the skills, hasn’t he? Olympic silver medallist, went on to win world titles and too good, too skilful and a probably a little bit too fast as well for Conor Benn. So, Amir Khan, every single day.”
Garcia vs. Benn takes place on Saturday, September 12, at the T-Mobile Arena.
